And while those networks are great, sometime you just can’t beat the selection and service of Amazon.com.
So today we’re going to change gears and look at some niches available through the Amazon Associates Program. If you’ve been following the news, you know Amazon is celebrating the defeat of the Affiliate Nexus Tax in California. So if you’re an Amazon affiliate in California who’s in the process of being reinstated, or if you’re an Amazon affiliate anywhere else, now is a great time to start thinking about getting your sites ready for the holiday shopping season.
In 2010, U.S. online holiday sales jumped by 15 percent, for a total of $36.4 billion in sales from Oct. 31 through Dec. 22. If you imagine everything that was sold, and all the categories out there, it can be mind boggling and a little overwhelming. But if you focusing on just a few key niches for the upcoming season, and play your keyword cards correctly, you can take advantage of this years’ holiday opportunity.
Today, we’ll look at five niches in Amazon that you can use for your holiday season business planning.
Kindles and Tablet Computers
With the recent release of Amazon’s Kindle Fire, an Android-powered tablet with full capabilities for videos and apps, this niche will be hot this season. If you’re running a shopping comparison site, juxtaposing the Kindle alongside Apple Computer’s iPad could be a great opportunity to capture traffic and make sales.
Health and Beauty
Many affiliates are going to be focused on the obvious during the holiday season: Clothing, holiday accessories and toys. But sales of personal care items—such as makeup and hair care—skyrocket during the holiday season. If you choose your keywords correctly, you might stumble upon a burst in traffic.
Cameras have two distinct advantages for affiliate marketers. First, they have a high price point, which means high commission. Second, they are natural long tail keywords, with brand names and product model numbers that consumers frequently search for. Focus on a few hot products, write long 600-800 word reviews, and make sure that the brand and model information is in your title tag. Do all of that and you’ve got a winning formula.
Home, Garden and Tools
This is another category of high-dollar, high-commission products. If your review site can help buyers understand the pros and cons of what they’re buying, you might just find yourself making commissions from your reviews.
Jewelry and Watches
While this category of high-dollar products is a very hard one to compete for in terms of keywords, there are opportunities to capture long tail keywords, particularly around hot brand names such as Kenneth Cole, Citizen and Seiko. Focus on a solid long tail keyword strategy, and make sure your reviews are helpful and loaded with images or videos. If you can give buyers a good sense of what they’re about to buy, you’ll be more likely to earn their business.
