It’s been a busy couple of weeks in the world of affiliate marketing. Here are some of the best, most interesting stories we’ve been following.

Shawn Collins: How to create an “ask the expert” site

Do you like Quora? Do you like answering questions? Do you like launching new sites and making money from them?

On his blog, Affiliate Tip, Shawn Collins deconstructs everything you need to know about setting up a new ask the expert affiliate site. While there’s a lot of time spent going through the background information about why people go online and such, there’s a tone of great content in this webinar. FCC’s “net neutrality” rules take effect in November

Last December, the FCC revised its net neutrality rules to prevent internet service providers from blocking access to sites and applications, slowing or blocking web traffic, blocking competitive content, or charging for quicker connections.

There were three basic points to these new rules. First, broadband providers will have to disclose management practices, commercial terms and performance characteristics. Second, providers won’t be able to block lawful content, sites, apps or services. And more importantly, they won’t be able to block apps such as Skype that compete with their own voice or video services. Finally, they won’t be able to discriminate regarding lawful network traffic would not be permitted.

Jerry Brown repeals the California Affiliate Nexus Tax law

Late last week, California Governor Jerry Brown delayed the implementation of the state’s nefarious Affiliate Nexus Tax for one year. While the Performance Marketing Association is celebrating this as an appeal the PMA should recognize that this is only a one-year reprieve.

But it’s great news nonetheless. Amazon is already in the process of reinstating its California affiliates.

Affiliate Marketing Success Story

Allan Gardyne from interviews super affiliate Jeff Ostroff, whose gets 10-15,000 visitors per day. Ostroff talks about how he got started. In addition, there are great tips in here for affiliates looking for ideas on how to create great publicity for their sites. For example:

Never under-estimate the value of getting a free news story about your website. They don’t always provide a clickable URL link to you, but they do mention your website name and you can sometimes get some very high quality traffic from them, plus Google considers them more a trusted site than some banner farms, when determining quality of your incoming links.
