FCC’s “net neutrality” rules take effect in November

Last December, the FCC revised its net neutrality rules to prevent internet service providers from blocking access to sites and applications, slowing or blocking web traffic, blocking competitive content, or charging for quicker connections.

There were three basic points to these new rules. First, broadband providers will have to disclose management practices, commercial terms and performance characteristics. Second, providers won’t be able to block lawful content, sites, apps or services. And more importantly, they won’t be able to block apps such as Skype that compete with their own voice or video services. Finally, they won’t be able to discriminate regarding lawful network traffic would not be permitted.

Jerry Brown repeals the California Affiliate Nexus Tax law

Late last week, California Governor Jerry Brown delayed the implementation of the state’s nefarious Affiliate Nexus Tax for one year. While the Performance Marketing Association is celebrating this as an appeal the PMA should recognize that this is only a one-year reprieve.

But it’s great news nonetheless. Amazon is already in the process of reinstating its California affiliates.
