Can Your Online Business Survive Without You?
It’s not something you really want to think about, but it’s a serious matter. You’ve spent years and years building your own business, and you a mega proud of yourself to be your own boss and run your own company… but what happens if you die?
Since YOU are YOUR BUSINESS, how can someone take over after you aren’t around?
With the majority of ad campaigns and web sites being setup and run by ourselves, we know what it takes to run our business, and it’s part of our daily routine.
However, would would someone else do if your business was thrown into their lap?
How would you explain your business to your family if you were to suddenly die.
Would they be able to take over the day to day operations… or would all of your hard work over the years just whither away to nothing?
These are the types of questions you need to ask yourself now, so you can plan ahead. Not just for yourself, but also for your family and the future of your business.
Here are a few ideas on how you can help the future of your business after your time has passed…
- Keep a Diary / Guide Book
Sure, it sounds corny… but imagine how useful it would be for whoever decides to take over your business after your. Daily notes of what you are working on, business plans and future ideas for your business… it’s not only useful for the future, but it will help you run a better business now. Also make sure you keep all usernames and passwords in your diary too. Imagine how many of these you have built up over the years.
- Bring in a Colleague / Business Partner
If you are still doing everything for your business, congratulations, that’s quite a task! However, that also means the business is all on you and no one else has an idea how to run it. If you have a partner or someone along side you and knows how to run the business, the future of your business after you are gone is one less thing to worry about.
- Automate Your Business
While this one won’t be possible for all businesses, it is possible to automate some if not all of a business. Ad campaigns, landing pages, budgets and everything else need long term care, but some web sites can live on forever without updates and maintenance. Is there anywhere in your current business that you can automate and keep a long term revenue source in the works without relying on you being there to manage it?
It’s not a fun topic to write about, nor to read… but it is something we all should think about, as the day will eventually come when you are not around.
