How To Create A Sound Web Dev Action Plan

checklistCreating a new affiliate site can be fun, no doubt about it. But if you want results to be equally as fun as the process then it’s good to have a sound action plan set in place.

In this guide you’ll find a 10-step checklist to follow when creating your site.

1. Your Site Loads Fast.

This is something you absolutely have to take care of. You can check your load times with a tool like YSlow. If it’s more than 4 seconds, people might decide to leave your site and go to your competitor.

2. Good Text-to-Background Contrast.

In some cases, similar colors look good visually. But they rarely do a good job at being accessible and presenting your content in a clear way. Always make sure to provide significant contrast between your background and the text content.

3. Good Whitespace Use.

Whitespace is the best friend of every designer who knows their craft. Essentially, it’s the space on your design that’s not occupied by anything. Good whitespace use can bring more attention to your conversion elements. Also, make sure that you’re using a font of appropriate size and spacing.

4. Custom 404 Page.

Your visitors will inevitably try to visit a page on your site that doesn’t exist. This is a great opportunity to redirect them to your custom 404 page. Such a page can display a search field, a simple listing of your most popular content, and also an opt-in form or some affiliate links.

5. Prominent Logo.

Your logo is the most characteristic branding element you can have. It’s your job to make it highly visible and memorable. Make sure that it’s surrounded by a fair amount of whitespace and that it’s in good contrast to the background.

6. Tagline That Makes the Company’s Purpose Clear.

Using a tagline is probably the best shortcut a website owner can take when conveying their purpose to the visitor. Try to come up with just a single phrase that defines your business.

7. Visible Contact Info.

People are naturally more confident when dealing with sites that are open about their real contact data. Things like phone numbers, addresses, names, and email addresses are great for proving that you’re not trying to hide.

8. Good Usable Navigation.

Your menus should be clear and provide a direct indication on what the destination of a given link is. For instance, if you’re linking to your about page then simply name the link “about.” Also make sure that your menus are visible and easy to use (avoid drop-downs).

9. Consistent Styles and Colors.

Whenever you’re launching a site make sure that it follows one specific color scheme. You can use a tool like Color Scheme Designer to find interesting schemes.

10. Optimized WordPress.

If you want to have good experience using WordPress, you shouldn’t risk installing low quality, unpopular plugins or themes. Also, make sure that you’re using a good URL structure (one that gives you the possibility to include your keywords).

Finally, we advise you to work only with professional designers who understand the nature of the business, or to buy only quality themes from respected WordPress theme stores.
