Differences Between Creating a Web Site or Blog
Today's Editor's Picks
As we continue our journey through deciding what is the best way for you to start making money online, it’s now time to compare the differences between creating a web site or creating a blog.
Before jumping right into the pros and cons of each, I want to quickly remind you about the first two posts in this series.
As mentioned in our how to make money with your own web site article, we covered the following ways to create a web site that is focused on long term growth and revenue generation.
- Creating a Blogging Site
- Creating a Content Web Site
- Creating a Resource / Review Web Site
- Creating a eCommerce Web Site
Each of these methods is a great way to get your feet wet in the world of online marketing and creating a business or side income of your own. Since blogging is a beast of its own, we will need to look at a few different ways creating a blog is different from a web site.
First off, the majority of blogs on the internet are run off the WordPress platform. This is a free software that is ridiculously easy to install. Even more amazing, is that some of the biggest multi million and even billion dollar blogs online are also run off this free WordPress platform. If you have a programmer or know how to code, WordPress can become a power content management solution and really allow a blog to become anything you can imagine.
When you start your own blog, you can focus on any of the following topics or site concepts without the need to have a large amount of money to invest or even advanced knowledge of web design and site creation. The quality content that you write for your blog is going to be the difference between being one of the billions of blogs that goes no where, and being one of the small fraction of blogs that becomes a real business and makes money.
- Product and review based sites
- Personal blogs with daily updates
- Information about yourself or business
- Have guest bloggers provide original content
- Create a community of bloggers to post content
- Schedule posts in advance
- Get feedback from users who read your site
- Sell on site advertising or create member site
- Using wordpress plugins and themes for customization
All of the information above is really just scratching the surface when it comes to blogging. The old world mentality that blogs are just online journals and will never make money, is nothing further from the truth.
Two very successful blogs that have generated millions of dollars of in business over the past few years are JohnChow.com and my personal blog at ZacJohnson.com. It’s not so much that the concept of blogging won’t make money, but that you need to focus on how you will use the power of blogging to build a brand a make a business.
As I’ve mentioned several times in the past, the best way to make money online or start a business of your own is to simply get started right now. Setting up your own blog and using WordPress is one of the easiest, cheapest and fastest ways to get started.
So with that said… start your own blog today!
