Affiliate managers are very busy people and if you are familiar with their day-to-day activities you know that sometimes they can unintentionally lose track of time and emails. Nevertheless, without affiliates, affiliate programs would not exist.

However, you do need to be equipped with some credentials if you want to negotiate the best incentives from a merchant. Remember their Names
To some affiliates this simple piece of advice may sound trivial; however, you would be surprised by the number of times affiliate managers (including myself) encounter affiliates who misspell and mispronounce their names. Everyone wants respect and that includes affiliate managers. Therefore, it is imperative to at least learn the proper pronunciation and spelling of the person from whom you will be requesting information and promotions about various programs. Remember one of the six fundamental ways to win friends, according to the author Dale Carnegie, is to remember a person’s name.
Generate some Buzz
Obviously you must have website traffic to gain the attention of an affiliate manager, but as you also know, you must have a full range of outlets to attract those visitors. Ensure that in addition to having a blog and updated SEO-rich content on your site that you are also interlinking between your Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other online platforms where people can share your information. If you don’t have enough time to manage all those social media platforms, then use tools like Ping.fm (www.ping.fm) and HootSuite (www.hootsuite.com) to help you.
Affiliate managers don’t just look at the layout of an affiliate’s website; they also evaluate traffic numbers and keywords. They look at things like your Google rank and the number of visitors you are attracting on a weekly basis. If you don’t have any traffic yet, then it’s time to generate some. If you do have traffic, but have not done any analytics on your site, then there are a few tools to help you acquire that information. Tools like Google Analytics, Alexa.com (www.alexa.com), Quantcast.com (www.quantcast.com) and ClickTale (www.clicktale.com) can provide you with deeper answers about your site. Do a little digging. You might discover just how much of a fit the product or service you want to promote is for your site based on your audience data.
Show the Plan
Have you ever heard of Amway or similar network marketing organizations? Their common practice for explaining their business philosophy is “show the plan.” This is exactly what you need to show your affiliate manager – a plan. You are an entrepreneur and it will be in your best interest to draft a mini proposal explaining how you would like to help the merchant achieve the best ROI.
