How to Set Up Your Amazon Associates Account
Setting up a new affiliate account can be challenging. Some networks and merchants do whatever they can to challenge and evaluate affiliates. And that makes it hard for beginners to join programs and launch their business.
Amazon, on the other hand, is known for making it easy for affiliates to join. But while the process of joining Amazon is less complicated than other affiliate programs and networks, it still requires a great deal of attention to detail. If you miss a step, or enter in the wrong information, it can put your account, and your reputation as an affiliate, at risk.
In today’s post, I’ve outlined the step-by-step process you’ll need to follow to set up your new Amazon Associates account.
Step 2: Scroll down the Your Account page to the Become an Affiliate link under Make Money with Us.
Step 3: Under “Don’t Have an Account?” in the right hand column, click the Join Now for FREE button.
Step 4: Confirm that you’re the correct person to receive payment from Amazon. Then, click the Next button.
Step 5: Complete the website profile. You’ll need to provide the following:
- Website name
- Topic of your website
- Types of Amazon items you’ll offer
- Type of website you have (blog, comparison shopping, etc.)
- Methods you use to drive traffic
- Your monetization strategy
- Your link building strategy
- Site traffic and visitor metrics
- Why you’re joining the Amazon Associates Program
- How you heard about Amazon’s affiliate programs
Then you’ll need to agree to the contract terms and click “Finish.” When you do that, you’ll be on the “Thank you for applying” screen.
Step 6: Now it’s time to specify your payment method. Follow the “Specify Payment Method Now” link.
Step 7: Now you can enter your tax information. You’ll need your name and a social security number, or better yet, your business tax ID number. The screenshot you’re seeing is for U.S. residents, but is similar for residents of other countries.
You’ll also need to select an organization type (what kind of business do you have?) and a payment method. I recommend setting up your account with direct deposit. You’ll need the name of your bank, your account number, and your bank’s routing or ABA number.
When you’ve filled in all of the information, click continue.
Step 8: You’re done! Now it’s time to start looking for products to promote on your website.
