Passive Income in Your Off-Time

Your projects have got you fired up. You’re rip, roaring, and taking action.

Buuuut …

Sometimes you just need a break from the hustle and bustle. A few days to step back after a hard grind can help take your mind off things.

But since you’re an affiliate you probably have an itch. You know you want to make some money but you also know the value of relaxing (e.g. avoiding the burn-out).

Don’t worry about it.

Today I’m going to share a handful of ideas where you can start earning some passive income in the off-time between projects. These won’t be the usual affiliate strategies but instead ones that should be simple, fun, and relaxing … oh yes … and profitable.

Here are my suggestions:

  • GPT Websites – Most of the activities you do on these “Get Paid To” type websites are things like watch a video, play a game, or sign up for an offer. The way to keep this passive is by utilize the referral service which generally gives you a cut (or up to a certain amount) of what your referrals earn. It takes a little time to get this going but you could always outsource some of the article work if you want to build some guest post links or you could do some advertising and drive them to a customized landing page.

  • Web 2.0 Properties – Even though I just said that these weren’t all that great anymore they can still bring in a bit of income on the passive side. Consider hiring writers to create niche pieces for the sites. Do a few one-off reviews that wouldn’t fit on your sites. Try crowdsourcing the content you’re publishing through your community or (as crazy as this sounds) by purchasing essays, reports, and other papers from college students (since they may not keep them anyway).

  • Meet Ups – I said in the past that meet ups can be a great way to earn some good money without doing much of any work. For example – you could be at a neighborhood bbq, bring up what you do, and offer someone some tutorials on the matter. You could then give them a few affiliate links to products you recommend which should take very little time. Even better if the products/services you promote have recurring commissions due to subscriptions.

  • Internet Land Lording – Hire a developer to create websites for you based on local professions and then begin emailing companies that lack an online presence with the option to rent or purchase these prefabricated domains. You could pretty much delegate this entire process to a virtual assistant, too. Get a dozen or so small businesses signed on doing monthly payments for a high ranking, local site you’ve built for them and you’ve scored passive gold.

  • Sell Stock Media/Items - Got an eye for photography? The ability to create website templates? Almost anything digital can become something you can sell over and over again with the right marketplaces (I personally would recommend the Envato Marketplaces). Once you do the up-front work (and really put effort into it) you can get the piece listed on the sites then sit back while the payouts roll in. Of course you should do a bit of promotion, too, but if you’ve already built a good brand and great product a lot of the time it speaks for itself.

I think these are enough to get some ideas rolling, don’t you think?

Remember: the money isn’t just going to fall into your lap when you think “passive”. There is often a lot of up-front work that needs to be done and that’s why we keep it to our off-time so you can keep up with your main projects but sow the seeds of passive income when you’ve got little else going on.
