Scribe SEO is simple: A great plugin for content marketers
Today I’m going to talk about Scribe SEO, a terrific plugin for WordPress.
If you’ve been reading this blog, you know I’m an advocate of using WordPress for affiliate marketing websites. It’s free, it’s simple to set up, and it makes it easy for the search engines to find and spider your content.
But one thing WordPress doesn’t do, at least out of the box, is optimize your content for the search engines. Without proper search engine optimization (SEO), you can have the best content in the world and no visitors to your site.
Why is that? Essentially there are two reasons sites with great content fail.
The first is a result of a “build it and they will come” mentality. It assumes that if you simply build a great site, the search engines will find you. It also assumes that readers will find you, presumably through the search engines. What this opinion neglects to account for is the hundreds, if not thousands, of competing sites in your niche. If you don’t differentiate yourself from the pack, you will be help back. And if you’re just sitting back and merely hoping that you’ll get links, and traffic, to your site, you won’t.
The second reason sites fail is that the content isn’t structured in a way that makes it easy for search engines, and readers, to find it. The content could be poorly formatted or lack custom title tags (which are one of the most powerful factors in Google’s algorithm). Or it could even lack a meta description tag (even though the meta description tag doesn’t impact ranking, it’s a serious key to good usability). And worse, it could be misusing a keyword — using it too much, not enough, or focusing on the wrong keyword.
I’ve been using the Scribe SEO plugin over the past few weeks. It helps me focus on these issues in a way that’s easy and highly integrated with the workflow I use to publish content.
First, it analyzes my post or page, then gives me data I need to better optimize my content for SEO. Here are the SEO factors it helps me improve:
Keyword: Am I using the keyword in my content correctly?
Title Tag: Do I have a custom title tag with my keyword in it?
Meta Description: Am I using the tag in a way that meets Google’s expectations?
Overall SEO Effectiveness: The thing I like best about Scribe SEO is that it offers an overall score. Based on a variety of factors, I’ll know exactly how my content meets recommendations based on SEO recommendations and best practices.
Scribe SEO is a subscription service. You can set it up on as many sites as your want, then you pay for the amount of evaluations you run each month. For $27 a month you get 30 evaluations, for $47 a month, you get 120 evaluations, and for $97 you get 300 evaluations.
Overall, Scribe is a great tool that will help you improve the SEO of your site. Like many other SEO resources, much of the information it provides is available through other tools and resources. But Scribe delivers that information in a way that’s easy to follow and actionable. In fact, when you’re using Scribe, you won’t have any excuse for not optimizing your content!
