SEO: How to win with the search engines
At this point in the Site-Building Challenge, you’ve got your site completed and you’re loading it with great content. But if your site is relatively new, you’re probably disappointed in the low amount of traffic you’re seeing in Google Analytics.
Don’t worry. It’s normal for a site to start slowly. In fact, most new sites get relatively little traffic.
However, don’t settle for less than you can achieve.
If you’re not seeing the amount of traffic you want, and you want to do better, you can improve your traffic. You can do it by taking action. While filling your site with great content and promoting that content isn’t easy, it can be done.
I’ll say it one more time: You can win with the search engines. To start winning and get more traffic to your site, start off by following these simple tips:
Write great content – It all comes down to great content. If you don’t have great content, your readers will notice. They might come to your site through the search engines, but they won’t stay long.
But if you do have great content on your site, your readers will be more likely to read it, come back, and share it with others. If you can, review a product or help your readers solve a problem. Explain how something works. When you work to ensure that every piece of content on your site is worth sharing, you’ll get great results.
Use social media – Make sure you’re taking advantage of social media such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. If you have relevant pages and accounts for your site, it makes it easier for your visitors to stay in touch and become repeat visitors to your site.
In addition, using social media plugins for WordPress such as AddThis and Shareaholic make it easier for readers to share your content with others. If you want people to recommend your content, you’ve got to make it easy for them to do so.
Follow Webmaster Tools – Using Google Webmaster Tools is a great way to know how Google is looking at your site. You’ll learn what keywords Google is seeing and if there are any crawling errors on your site, which could prevent Google from really knowing what’s on your site.
Get backlinks – There are many ways to get backlinks for your site. You can write a press release and post it on multiple sites. You can get others to recommend your content through social media. One time-efficient way to get backlinks is through blog commenting, which can help you get high-quality links very quickly.
What you choose to do from these tips is up to you. The less you do, the longer it will take to build your traffic, and your affiliate commissions. The more you do, the quicker you’ll get to the results you want to achieve.
