What is Google AdSense?

What is Google AdSense? – affiliateprograms.comSometimes, you might find yourself in a difficult situation as an affiliate marketer. You’ve got a great site that’s loaded with fresh, original content … and you’re getting a ton of traffic. But your commissions are flat. As your traffic goes up, your revenue is flat, or worse, non-existent.

You’ve tried split testing and placing different offers on your site, but nothing changes. Your revenue is still flat.

When you’re in a situation like this, it’s time to try something else. One strategy I recommend to site owners who haven’t succeeded with affiliate advertising is to try Google AdSense.

What is Google AdSense?

Google AdSense is a program that allows to you host text- and image-based Google advertising on your site. When someone clicks on one of the ads, you receive a part of the pay-per-click payment. While getting one or two clicks a day isn’t going to create much revenue, if you have a site with several thousands of visitors a month, you could very well get hundreds or thousands of clicks each month.

While some Internet marketers use AdSense as a substitute for affiliate marketing, others use AdSense as a complement to their affiliate advertising, displaying AdSense banners alongside their affiliate ads.

What are the benefits of AdSense?

First and foremost, AdSense is easy. It’s simple to sign up then copy and paste code into your website. It also cuts down on the amount of time and research you need to do with advertising.

Because Google will automatically provide relevant ads to your site, you can focus on creating content and getting traffic to your site. Google can choose from hundreds of thousands of AdWords advertisers and find the best, most relevant offers for your website.

And when you begin to scale your business, setting up multiple sites in different niches, you don’t need to reapply to the program. If your new site follows Google’s content guidelines, you’ll be approved almost immediately. This can save you a significant amount of time and energy.

Now that you know the benefits of AdSense, let’s discuss how to install it.

How you can install AdSense

Before you can install AdSense on your site, you’ll need to apply to the program.

Doing so is quite easy. Google has a simple form that asks basic information about your site and contact info. While you do have to go through an application process, you can take comfort in the fact that most applications of sites that follow Google’s terms of service are likely to be approved by Google. And most approvals are turned around in one business day.

Once you’re approved for AdSense, getting the code for your site is as easy as copy and paste. You just need to go to the AdSense site, select the size banner you want, and copy the code.

Then just go back to your site and paste that code into a location where you want a banner.

The kinds of sites that do well with AdSense

Google AdSense is a great way to monetize almost any content site. If your site is in a focused niche with content about “how to” do something, a news site, or a directory of information, you’ll do well.

However, if your site is about certain banned topics, Google won’t allow you to participate in the AdSense program. These topics include gambling, firearms, ammunition, weapons; beer or alcohol; tobacco or tobacco-related products; illegal drugs, prescription drugs, pornography and more. (Click here for a full list of banned topics.)

Tips for making money with AdSense

If your site follows Google’s guidelines and if participating in AdSense makes “sense” to you, you’ll want to focus on a few best practices to make as much money as possible.

Some of the best practices for making money from AdSense include:

  • Placing up to three ad units on a page.

  • Writing content on a regular basis and posting frequently to your site.

  • Writing original content. You won’t get as much traffic to your site with duplicate or “borrowed” content.

  • Keep driving new visitors to your site. The more traffic, the more potential AdSense clicks. Make it easy for readers to recommend your site to others.

Trying AdSense should be an easy decision for you. If you’re not getting the results you want from your affiliate site, it’s easy to apply and get started in this program.
