As we near the end of the Site-Building Challenge, it’s time to ask yourself an important question: Am I ready to turn my passion into a profitable business?
Of course, since you’ve made it this far in the Site-Building Challenge, I’m going to assume your answer is yes.
Now you’re probably wondering how you’re going to harness your passion and unlock the potential of your affiliate website.
Well, it all comes down to you. You’re going to have to commit yourself to keeping your site updated with great content, evaluating and updating your affiliate offers, and building your authority in your niche.
By authority, I mean that you’re taking your passion and enthusiasm and sharing it with others. And you’re doing it in a way that commands the respect of an audience. Why? Because when your audience respects your knowledge, they’re more likely to purchase the affiliate products you recommend.
What’s an authority site?
While there’s no definition that will fit all authority sites, most do have one thing in common. An authority site is a website that’s offers credible and trusted information about a topic. You’ll find that authority sites are large sites driven by content, with useful and relevant information. They’re also timely and very accurate.
How do authority sites get traffic?
Because of the large amount of content on an authority site, it’s easy to get traffic through natural search with keyword-optimized content. And because the content is great, it receives a lot of recommendations and shares through social media channels such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
How do I get there?
Because you’re starting off, you’re likely intimidated by the size and scope of the example sites I shared above. Don’t worry. As they say, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
Your authority site may take months to develop. It will require consistent, quality effort over a long period of time, and most of that effort will go into creating content. But I promise you, if you invest the time in building your site correctly — with keyword research, quality content and traffic generation — your efforts will pay off.
A great tactic when you’re getting started is to cover the news in your niche. Set up a Google Alert for keywords, and make sure you’re receiving daily news updates. Write a short blog post about those updates and link back to the original source(s).
Combine this news content with content that’s more researched and informative, and you have the beginnings of an authority site.
In addition, make sure your site is dynamic, with videos and interactive content such as comments and polls. Also take care to keep the content on your site consistent and organized.
Keep this up over the forthcoming weeks and months and you’ll get the results you want.
- Create a monthly content calendar.
- Keep creating great content (text and video). Publish it to your site regularly.
- Make your site interactive with polls, comments … and possibly a forum.
- Keep growing your site’s features.
- Encourage others to share your content via social media.
- Continue to monitor your progress and adjust your keyword strategy as necessary.
