An article a day is perfect. If you go with an article a week, you're below the curve. I found from experience that the search engine bots are drawn to frequently updated blogs and sites like a deer in headlights. The more you update, the more you please the bots, simultaneously pleasing the "gods" at Google that we all unknowingly "pray" to.

It doesn't have to be long, and you can just say, "Blah. Nothing to write about. Getting a taco." It's an update... a sacrifice to the bots and the "gods". Google looks down on you and is pleased.
