I have never really done this... what top 3 bits of advice to get me headed in right direction?

First of all you have to learn basics of html (imho) without unedrstanding of site building you'll can't to participate in the most of affiliate program
Then learn more about SEO (search engine optimization)
And chose the prefered categories of online business at last

first off, my condolences but this might be a new beginning for you
If you truly are interested in working hard to build a viable business for yourself then affiliate marketing is for you

Go to affiliate marketing for beginners The site has the basics of affiliate marketing and is free to view. Make sure you apply what you learn. It takes you through everything you need to know to get a marketing site online and make some money

You should aim to learn on the job.

You do not need to learn HTML before you start. You can use an html editor which is similar to word to help build your website

You'll find that you'll pick up some HTML skills as you go along

If you work hard at it and are dedicated, yes this is a great business to be in

Careful out there. There will be those that want to sell you get rich quick scams. Avoid them, they really only work for those selling the scam.
