Default One niche or spread it out?

Do you guys reckon it's better to stick with one niche, such as poker, and try to dominate certain keywords with a few different sites or to spread it out a bit and cover a few different sectors?

I'm asking because there are only so many hours in the day and I'm trying to decide whether to focus on yet more poker sites or branch out and try a few different areas.

It's relatively easy to create sites on a subject you're familiar with and have already done the majority of research, but is it a case of 'all your eggs in one basket'? Also I know other areas out of the gambling sector could be easier to market and I've heard it said a few times if you can make it in poker you can make it anywhere (SEO wise). The rewards may not be so great in other sectors but they 'appear' to be less competitive so a greater market share could be achieved with less effort?

Which approach do you think would give the greatest rewards in the long run? Thoughts anyone?

I like the idea of diversification... it's just proving tougher for me because I don't have the passion and interest in other affiliate markets as I do in poker... but for the long haul I'd prefer to not have the majority of my eggs in the poker basket.

Default branch out or stick with what you know

hi

I've got the same dilema -

on the one hand I think somehow I should find the time to explore other ideas and markets - as a more diverse portfolio of sites on different markets seems to be more secure long term

on the other hand time / return on time invested is definately an issue - It would be alot easier to use what little experience I've gained on poker ... doing more poker sites

that would definately be a higher return for the same amount of time - maybe the answer is to out source more maintaining existing sites to open up some time to add more poker sites and dip a toe into other ideas and products

cheers scrawnybob

I think it's always a good idea to work in a few different verticals. This way if one takes a dive you always have a backup.

Plus long term it will help you to build a residual income spread across several different industries.

Go niche within niche then when that gets big and you dominate the smaller niches make it you can always turn it into something bigger. Start small grow big = bling bling much quicker.

I believe in multiple streams of income, which is evident from my website. I feel that any business like the stock market can have a bad day. Therefore diversification is key to survive slow markets and consistency. If you have alot of income level, then you have to market all of them.

I read an interesting ebook that allowed me to start diversifying into other markets outside gambling.

The ebook was Niche Marketing On Crack. It basically explains how to identify niche markets quickly, setup blogs about the niche market products and capitalize on highly searched for, but not highly promoted products.

SmackDog: When you say "setup blogs about the niche market" - can it work to set up multiple blogs off the one domain - as subdomains for example - for different verticle markets attached to the niche? I have limited knowhow but I wonder if the problem with multiple blogs off one domain would be with SEO and page rankings. Would I be right?

I feel, it is better to concentrate on step by step process. because, there are thousands of blogs, web sites, new programs, scams(most of them). what actually required is data base, affiliates under you and a list of thousands accepted to received emails from you.

It's good to diversify as long as you have some knowledge of what you want to promote.

For me it's best to just stick with casinos even though I want to branch out to poker or bingo, but I don't feel I have much more to offer than what is out there.

Whatever you do, you have to do it better than the average guy as well as offer something different or unique to the player/member for repeat traffic, word of mouth and interest other webmasters so that they want to link to you without you asking.
