Yes, it is possible. Though in my opinion you need to have a lot of followers (people who decided to follow your messages). Building followers base isn't hard. I remember I managed to get 50 followers for my poker account on Twitter without any hard work.

I have gotten quite a bit of traffic to my blog from my Twitter this month. I believe my post about TweeterGetter has really helped.

Twitter is a great resource, not just for driving traffic but also for online networking with industry peers as well as quick answers to any question. If you build up enough of a following then getting an answer to a quick question can be almost instant.

twitter has recently been gaining more and more publicity, but some people are questioning it's main purpose. is it better used for fun? for marketing products?

Here's an interesting quote from an article in the times about twitter, calling people who use it insecure

Quote:
“We are the most narcissistic age ever,” agrees Dr David Lewis, a cognitive neuropsychologist and director of research based at the University of Sussex. “Using Twitter suggests a level of insecurity whereby, unless people recognise you, you cease to exist. It may stave off insecurity in the short term, but it won’t cure it"

Thumbs up

It's definitely a great publicity tool. I can see how it would benefit expert bloggers and affiliate marketing experts who have a wealth of followers. I would imagine it would be an excellent tool for coupon site owners to use to give their potential customers the heads up on any new promos. Good for retailers who want to develop customer loyalty, too.

Our network Share Results has a Twitter account. I've thought about setting up a personal one, but don't know if I'd have that much to say or time on my hands to update it.

I don't think Twitter is trumping Facebook just yet. People are still trying to figure out how Tweeting can make $.
