I have a feeling, from a sociological perspective that web 2.0 are giving people the impression that everyone wants to hear what they have to say. More so than that, I have a feeling that most of the talking is coming from people around the age of 14, or with similar maturity levels. I doubt there is much though put in before things are written and I bet there is even less re-reading.
If you look at the patterns of communication over time, there has been a forward momentum where new technology allowed us to communicate more accurately and over a longer distance. It would seem the next step in the process would be video feed cell phones so you could talk face to face from anywhere. Despite this, the younger generation has let out a big F**K YOU to though and proper communication. I wonder how the backlash will come. Google can tell you when a movie is playing or how to shave, but if children turn to Google instead of adults for information on simple things, who will they turn to for relationship advice and big life decisions? Strangers? Teenagers? Google Search Robots? Maybe it is just because I am an old guy, but I feel like our communication needs to be more tight knit and less twit twit. |
