Since much of SEO is based on link building, people are trying to get them wherever they can. Lets not forget the benefit of exposure to a targeted market. If you can put your SEO needs on hold for a second and think about the users you want to bring in, instead of the keywords you want to be associated with, you will expand your horizons.
Here is an example. If you are promoting a picture-to-paining product, you would obviously want some links in places associated with home decorating and art. What you might not think about, are that the same people that would buy that painting have other needs. You could focus on places that sell childrens products. Who would be browsing those products? Unless those kids have credit cards, it will be the parents, and when they see an example of a family portrait with kids in it, you might just spark thier interest. The association with a kids toy site might not boost you that much, and if it is a nofollow it won't at all, but nonetheless, it will help you get traffic. So lets be creative here, think of new ways to reach your customers, even if they don't know they are looking for you.

Great post Greg!!!
It has my wheels spinning. As you know, my site will be dedicated to saltwater aquarium keeping. well, one of the articles that I wrote for my site is focused on the benefits of owning a saltwater aquarium. Some of the benefits revolve around relieving stress, relaxation, and other health issues. This opens a new market for me. Thanks!!! |
