We all know that original content both helps in SEO and user retention. The question a lot of people have is how often they should post something new. There are a couple of things to keep in mind as you decide what balance works best for you.
First off, you want to make sure you are not flooding your site. If you post too often, users may feel like they can not keep up with all the new posts. With the popularity of RSS feeds and twitter accounts it is really easy to stay updated on your favorite websites, but no one likes to have 8 of the last 10 updates from one site. The exact number of posts per week is very specific to the amount of unique and return visitors to your site, so in the end, you will have to make that decision to fit your needs. Second, you should stay fresh and avoid duplicating ideas. A big challenge for many affiliates is posting unique content that is interesting over the long run. Many a time a new website will start with a bang and after a few weeks run out of topics to post on. Make sure you have plenty to talk about. If you need new ideas, participate in forums like this one and stay up to speed on what is going on in the industry by checking out news sources. If you are ever really desperate, you can try hiring someone to write copy for you. There are plenty of people out there willing to help you for a reasonable price. (usually between $20-50 per article of 400-500 words) Finally, make sure you have time to make the content awesome. Never rush it. The main thing that separates you from all of the other sites out there is YOU! Make sure your posts convey your unique voice and are completed in a professional manner. Spell check, fact check, double check and then check it all again. A few typos and some false data can cost you users so always do your best. I hope that some of these ideas have helped you to think about how often you should post new content. Let me know what you think and if you have any other observations which might help. Keep up the good work guys!

Ya, it is important to give something unique to the visitors. Repeating the same thing over and over again only works for network news stations

GregK,
I could not have said what you shared better. I do not follow this advice, but I have read around for several years one should have at least one post a day. I think it does depend on the person, the audience and the subject matter. I would like to take an educated guess in that the more niche your product or audience, the more leeway one may have in posting content over the long haul that does not strain the creativity out of the posting. I run a handful of blogs, while still having the responsibility of media buying, and it is not a pretty sight when I get behind. It does not help that it is in the technology space. For me, it is more important to stay relevant than current. I try to find content that really hits home, especially in these times.

Good points Coderea. Posting article content is totally dependent on the traffic to the site. Some sites can justify 8-10 new articles a day, but I think for most of us here, that is a little much.
I know that I always benefit from and relate to a blog more when it shares personal views on a matter, rather than just repeating press releases.

Good points Greg. I have noticed, though, that Google likes websites that update frequently. As we all know, Google is a necessary evil, and we have to appease Google. You have to please your visitors, and you have to please Google too. Don't hold back on a update because it's not "sufficient", because posting everyday (or close) is something Google really likes, but at the same time, don't post too much so your visitors feel overwhelmed. Running a website is a balancing act.
