I have given it some serious thought but was wondering if your efforts just get buried in the landslide of videos?

Yes i have tried it, and it worked. I am getting good number of traffic and its a part of brand building. Though obviously you have to continuously monitor it and add maximum friends for better visibility but still the traffic generation time is quicker than other sources.

I'd say that keeping your ideas out of the ordinary definitely helps. People like to see something new, funny, and you just have to remember to do something that they will tell their friends about

Yes, being cutting edge (and not a follower) is important. You should brainstorm with your creative friends to gather their ideas on the youtube explosion and what they would do if given the chance (then you give them the chance
