I'm really looking into some viral video marketing, primarily on youtube of course, and other major video engines. I know you need to be funny, hit trends etc. But how did the viral video marketing of people like SXEphil and that chocolate rain get started? I think we should use this thread as viral video marketing tips.
So, viral video marketing should be: - funny - hit hot trends -... |

Video sites have quickly become some of the most highly trafficked sites on the Internet, making them one of the best places to generate lots of extra traffic.

i think that one of the more successful video campaigns that i've seen in awhile was the "will it blend" campaign where a company that sold blenders, literally tested whether random items would blend.
I'd say that keeping your ideas out of the ordinary definitely helps. People like to see something new, funny, and you just have to remember to do something that they will tell their friends about (The view count for this video is over 4million!!!!!) http://www.youtube.com/v/l69Vi5IDc0g&hl=en&fs=1 |

I agree with Arjun. The most important thing is always to have a good balance between the Humor or "out of the box" aspects of the video and getting your message across. Make sure that the message you are trying to get to the viewer is not overshadowed by the entertainment aspects of the video.

You make a good point gissele. There was one video a while back, I can't remember for exactly what, but it tired to be viral and had too many product logos in it so there was a backlash. They key is to be subtle. I think everyone is ok with one tasteful reference, they know what the purpose of viral marketing is, but once you get too heavy... done!
