Default Squidoo

So does anyone here have any experience using Squidoo for either SEO (link outs from your page) or seeking traffic?

I first heard bloggers at Pubcon/WMW talking about it as part of a group including digg, stumbleupon, etc. I ran into again a few days ago, figured i'd put up some pages and see if they went anywhere (they rank pages by popularity)

I've just created my first to pages there, they took about 30 minutes each.

The stuff that is selling is stuff that i picked out to be sold thru their aff accounts, they then give page owners a cut of the revenue. So if by some chance your page started getting blasted with traffic, it might make money. but i'm primarily looking for branding and links back to my sites.

Comments, experiences?

I played with squidoo a bit, but i don't think I ever really fully grasped the concept. I understand that it is basically a quick website builder, but is that it?

Squidoo is sort of web page builder but the concept is a bit bigger.

1) you are put in some sort of category where you are ranked among similar pages (lenses)

2) you can promote that page by using full arsenal of SEO (e.g. link building, link bites, linking between other lenses etc) this way improving your rankings and getting more traffic;

3) squidoo can be used then for promoting your products, adsense, building backlinks etc (btw, the higher you rank within category, the more internal links you get and more PageRank will flow into your lense from the big Squidoo itself boosting your page and links even more)

4) as with many web 2.0 properties you want to have multiple listings for your offers, e.g. your site is ranked n9, your squidoo lense is ranked n6, your other wetpaint page is ranked n12, your digg post ranks as n4 etc

I hope this gives you some ideas how this works.

I toyed with Squidoo in the end of '08. Didn't really use it enough to gain the full benefit. When I have time, I will see if I have the ability to exercise some patience and create a lens that will be worth viewing too.

I started using Squidoo to create a couple "lenses" that would have informative information that also links to my site. It is great for SEO, and it really does send traffic your way. If you feel like toying with it and you have the time, it seems to have few down sides. Plus, it's free. Go for it.

I never really understood the benefit of squidoo, and what exactly are these "lenses" all about? It just seems to me like another social platform, and obviously we don't hear about it much anymore compared to twitter

Best way to use Squidoo is to look at what others are writing, HOW they are writing it and DO the same with your niche. Try searching for blogs, even lenses that are dedicated to the topic of using Squidoo and learn more.

I used Squidoo with great success before but I now use a site that does the same thing as Squidoo called Hubpages. It works the same way and I've also used that to generate as much as 500,000 pageviews, lots of affiliate sales and adsense clicks.

If you searched google for "how to make money with hubpages", the first hub is mines.

To me the main benefit of Squidoo is in the link building and traffic generation rather than in direct revenue from your lenses.

The fact is that you can do a much better job of impressing your visitors with a website, although I hear some people do use Lenses as their main landing pages.

The advantage is Squidoo is that Google loves it, so whatever you put in there, as long as it is relevant and well SEO optimized will quickly be indexed and will probably rank well if you are not in a highly competitive search term.

I see it mostly as an additional SEO and traffic tool.
