I am going through one of the tutorials on Joomla and they are talking about adding news feeds from other sites on your site. I know that not everyone who uses Joomla is involved with affiliate marketing. So, I figured that I better ask here. From my understanding an RSS feed is a link of some sort that allows you to syndicate (display) an other sites news in your website. Although, that sounds very beneficial to people who might visit my site, would it actually be beneficial to me as an affiliate marketer? Why would I direct my viewers to an other site? What if they don't come back to buy from my links? My question is, should feeds be used by affiliate marketers?

Very good question...
Here it comes back to servicing your visitors and forgetting about the immediate money. If the visitor is happy they will bookmark you because they know that you have the answers even if you had to go find the answer for them.... Does this make sense? Take a look below:Click PC when you get there: Game Demos : Home Computer Games, Buy New Computer Games | Used Computer Games | New Video Games | Used Video Games This is a newsfeed displayed in an iframe for Game Demos from gamershell. It brings me no visible profit to post their game demos. But it does benefit my guests that I have this available. I also have game patches and gaming news in the same feed format. Since the download page opens in a new window, once they are done downloading the game and close that window, I am still there. They look over and see my game patches link and when they look they find a patch for an old game they thought was dead. They now bookmark my site because I am a Resource for ALL of these avenues. People are lazy by nature.......sad but true. If I have everything there for them as a control panel why should they bookmark all of the other sites? In short it comes down to good customer services and supplying the customer with what they desire. Very good question and something I think people may hurt themselves with by letting greed get in the way. I hope this made sense. HCG PS:rlugo, Judging by the approach that you are taking to your new venture, I have no doubt of your success. Keep putting the same passion as you have and you will do fine.

Very nice point of view HCG. I now see how feeds can help my site. I just need to find some good ones to add to add to my site. However, I am still learning how to build it so first things first. Thanks for your confidence in my success. I have no doubt in my success with this venture due to the fact that I am getting great help from folks like you. I feel that having a good team behind you is one of the biggest pieces of the success puzzle.

This was written to me by a member on the Joomla forum and I figured I'd post it here as it seems beneficial to us affiliate marketers.
"The main reason for displaying RSS feeds from other sites is that you give an idea to your visitors that your site is fresh. You have new content every time they visit. Search engines also like fresh content as well." |

I'm pretty excited to say that I found a feed that is related to my sites topic. It services my visitors without selling anything.

I just noticed that they also have their forum syndicated. So, I might add that to my site as well. That in itself should keep the content pretty fresh, yes? I might start my own forum down the road, but I'd rather focus on marketing and making a profit than on replying to questions and moderating. I could just become an active member of their forum.

That all looks good. The feed is very informative.
A forum can help a site but they take time to get members recruited. In fact I just started a gaming forum and just getting content for others to respond to takes time. I'm sure Greg can vouch for that. Feeds are great for content. Once you mature and get to know the ins and outs you can then start developing your own content. In fact you want your site to be in continuous growth as Google likes this. You also want to be involved in several forums that are aligned to your subject. Networking your business is a Big part of marketing. You may die of old age if you wait for Google to bring you up the ranks. When do we get to see your work?

Slow down brotha!!! Like I said, I am just going through some tutorials on Joomla. I am doing a practice site using my PC as a local host. I just got a bit side tracked wanting to know what these feeds are and figured I'd look a few up and save a couple to use on the actual site. I hope to have a couple pgs for review by the end of the month. I was busy writing my first article during my lunch break at work yesterday and one of my co-workers asked me what I was writing. Well, we got to talking and it turns out that her son is about to graduate from some multimedia grafic design school and could use some extra beer money. Can we say LOGO? I did see Greg's thread on creating your own awesome logo, but I figure why not toss the kid a bone and save myself from the frustration and time. I'll be talking to him today to toss a few ideas around.

Hungry young guys are a great way to get a starting logo. Though they usually lack real world experience, they tend to be more willing to work with your ideas and let you make changes. They also usually come with much lower price tags. Let the kid have a try and even if it isn't perfect, it won't cost much and should hold you over for a while.
