Default Need some information on freelance jobs!

Hi everyone, I have done training on web designing and have some skills in graphic design too. I had been thinking of joining a company but then I heard my colleagues talking about freelance jobs. I am not sure about this; they say it is good option. I had taken some information from them, but would like to know more about this.

Thanks in advance for any useful information.

With the current economic situation, people tend to loose hope and give up. But what they dont know is that the only thing they have to do is educate theirselves.

Research and read informative articles to get some ideas. I'd like to share this blog The ICT Job Hunter Blog|A blog by Integrity Career Transitions

Hope you learn something from it.

Cool Re: Need some information on freelance jobs!

This is pretty much what I do for a living, bud. I am a creative services provider (owner of Creativity Unlimited). GetAFreelancer.com and Elance.com are good, but in GAF you're bidding against a lot of people from India who can really beat you out on bids, because with what seems like pennies for a job, they can buy a car there. I've seen a lot of quality stuff come out of Guru.com and iFreelance.com. (Their slogan is great... "iFreelance. Do you?") Guru is the best. I am very close to scoring a major project through Guru... major project. I really want that project.

The problem is that if you want to take it to a high pace, even part time, you have to start finding some constant clients. In depth, if you're serious about getting into freelancing, even part time, I would go to the Library or Amazon and grab some books like "The Freelance Writer's Bible" or "Freelancing for Dummies". Susan Drake, the woman who wrote "Freelancing for Dummies" is an incredible source of knowledge and wisdom. I love that book, highly recommend it, and don't encourage anyone to freelance any service until they've read that book. A lot of people who hire freelancers also don't have much patience or time for people who take too long or have any errors in their writing or design structures, so I would suggest brushing up on those areas. I assume you're probably a fairly strong writer or designer, but I cannot stress enough how helpful it is to get a little self-education and strengthen areas that are probably already fairly strong. There is no such thing as a strength that is too strong.

Feel free to PM me for more, or go to my website where you'll find my contact info. I'd love to talk with you more about this, or maybe get a little networking going if you're serious. Networking is also very important in this line of work.

It's not just about bidding on projects..it's about knowing the project and judging yourself if you can do the project within the mentioned timeline. We have been doing projects on the above mentioned Freelancing sites and it works both sides...Outsourcing/ Offshoring / Freelancing doesn't mean that once the client gives you the project it's all over with him..which is absolutely a wrong thinking..the client should also treat the service providers as their own partners ..it's just like your guy working with you but he's not under the direct payroll of your company.!
As well as freelancers should treat their clients as their immediate boss and should report to them the status of the projects on a daily basis so that the boss knows that you are in touch .!

Excellent follow up answer. I did not have the two freelancing sites that you mentioned in your post, although I think I had heard of at least one of the two before.

I have known about the ones I posted for years. I always preach about being proactive and I did not sign up and start to take these sites seriously until this week.

Flex time was implemented at my work spot and I need to be making the best use of my time freelancing the exact same work that I do for my career. I so should have taken this more seriously sooner.
