A big part of SEO is linkbuilding. There are a whole of theories about what the best links are and what strategies don't work. Once you decide what you want to do though, you will have to figure out where to place links, so I wanted to post some good places to start looking.
-Directories: Right off the bat, go submit yourself to all the relevant directories. Some are free and some cost but either way that is a good link. -Forums: This is a good way to generate some links and attention. Make sure you aren't spamming though. Post good content, contribute to the discussions and have a subtle link in your signature. -Niche Sites: Look for some site that are relevant to your niche but not necessarily a competitor. Think about it what other types of sites people that visit yours also frequent. Do some research and talk to the webmasters, this can help both of you. -Submit Articles: There are many places on the internet to submit articles. (ezinearticles.com, articlesbase.com & articlegeek.com for starters) Put together good content and if it is accepted, you'll get a link. -Social Sites: Not just myspace and facebook but anything that lets you have a profile with a website. (LinkedIn, Youtube & Flickr) Some might not be counted, but even then it is visible to other users. -Blogs: Start with yours, then your friends, then expand from there. Bloggers are always looking for something to talk about, so give them a reason to talk about you and there is a link. I'm sure there are plenty more, but this will get you started. Anyone else have any good ideas?

It's an excellent post by Greg and yes..above mentioned methods are the most important tools to gain backlinks as well as to optimize your site but one thing which is important is to market the site in a particular niche rather than promoting it vigourously.!

I agree completely. The more focused you are on a nice, the better your ROI will be in terms of not only money, but time spent.
