Default Choosing the right keywords

I was reading a blog post by a friend of mine who is quite the SEO guru and he was really re-emphasizing the importance of choosing the right keywords and then sticking with that plan when you source and build in more content to your site. Often times choosing the right content, and then attaching the right anchor text is a simple practice that gets lost as a site grows. More on this over at Medianonis.net (as featured in CAP Magazine)

Keywords and keyword strings are sooo important. Anyone can rank for a term nobody searches for. You must know your market.

i'm excited about starting a new site and focusing on going after some difficult keywords. Some people like to play video games in there free time, i guess i'll be doing seo and working towards a goal.

addaminsane, good point. If you are into online marketing like some of your friends and my friends for that matter, are into video games, then you will compete and do very well.

I have made more money ranking for very specif keyword strings that I know convert instead of trying to rank for very competitive 1 word searches.

For example if you rank for "metabolife" you will get a great deal of traffic, but many visitors may not be in the market to actually purchase it online. But now say you rank for "buy metabolife online with paypal" you will get several less visitors but way higher conversion rates if that makes sense.

The problem is people won't tell you what keywords work! hehe!

I'm building a new poker site and now is the time for me to pick them. Should a kind soul with experience want to mentor me on keyword selection, or make suggestions but don't wish the whole world to know about it, PM me.
