Default My Viral Marketing Experiment

Ok, so I have done a few viral marketing campaigns over my career. One that many people don't know was even me is www.savemyfinger.com.

I really just did this on a bet to see how much traffic I could drive in a short amount of time. It was actually crazy how many hits came in the first week I put this out. The whole story is on the site, so I won't repeat it.

But if you are looking for tons of quick backlinks and immediate traffic, you should start thinking about viral marketing. The value of a solid viral marketing campaign cannot be under estimated.

Ha ha, that's pretty cool.

How do you go about starting a viral marketing campaign? Do you make a few posts in forums and stuff?

For the most part viral just means that it spreads very quickly throughout the internet. The youtube videos that get 1,000,000+ views in the first few days are an example of viral marketing. They start getting linked to abd passed around several different blogs or forums.

marketing Sherpa came out with their 'Top 12' list for vital campaigns and explained why each one worked. It's getting harder to push the viral envelope now. There are tons of great videos and clever marketing campaigns. The key is to be unique and clever. Humor seems to be the easiest genre of 'going viral'
Here are the top 12 campaigns from 2006

Wow, nice list! Thanks - I've been thinking of making a few videos other than poker vids.. Can anyone recommend the best equipment?

I really like camtasia from techsmith.com for recording videos from the computer if that is what you mean. If you mean making live videos then I believe Vegas Studio is supposed to be pretty good editing software.

Camtasia is an excellent tool. I've used it at work to build instructional videos on some of our eletronic tools. Easy to use and it does the job right.
