From what we know (and have read), it seems that the upcoming roll-out of the infamous Penguin update will further its focus on link networks.

These include anything like:

  • Displaying badges when you’re part of a network
  • A single (or multiple) network of websites you may own and interlink
  • Link directories (you may recall the slam on networks like “BuildMyRank”)

Thought: Does this also effect infographics which usually include an embed code?

We can summarize these tweaks as this:

  • Use the Google Disavow tool to remove “spammy” links
  • Manually remove links from your site (and from others via direct contact)
  • Work on natural link building by creating stellar content and networking
  • Test and try new traffic sources

Google has kept a tight hold on information about the specifics of the Penguin update so it’s hard to say when it will roll-out and the effects it will have on our websites but some information is better than none.
