Launching an online, affiliate business seems to bring out the martyrdom in people; they’re ready to sacrifice their time (often 20 – 40+ hours each week) on top of their normal work schedule.

Sure the rewards are incredible if the business pans out but what happens if you never leave this double work routine?

In business, the 80/20 rule is king; it states that 80% of your profits will come from 20% of your products – likewise, it means 80% of your success will come from 20% of your efforts.

If we know not every activity is leading to our success, what could we do to ensure we’re getting the most out of our time?

Setting a concrete, one hour work routine (for a work day) may seem far too little to accomplish the loftier goals in your business but it makes you aware of where your time is going and what actually attributes to your success; it also means you can set your mind to creative ventures, new campaigns, and find time to actually enjoy your work (rather than it being another job).

Before I ask the big question – here are some things to think about when you have just one hour:

  • Content Production. Content is the new de facto in building communities and search rankings; a simple review or tutorial post becomes another vehicle for an affiliate promotion and, if you create a routine and outline of your work, an hour is more than enough to knock down a new piece of content each day.
  • Split Testing. What would a 1% boost do in your online venture? When you’re talking thousands of dollars each day – it’s a lot and it adds up. Perhaps the best use of your time, when only doing the hourly thing, is to setup a new split test and analyze the previous results? You’ll learn a greater deal about your business and you’ll earn more in the long-run.
  • List Building. An hour is plenty of time to knock down a new sales letter, newsletter, or send out a trust gem to your email list; these updates will keep you fresh in the mind of your community, can be used to generate affiliate sales, or just strengthen the community (creating greater rapport and feedback).
  • Networking. Knowing the right people is, by far, one of the easiest ways to strike your success; you’ll gain better exposure to your work and website which leads to a larger community. A larger community and exposure to your niche increases your odds in conversions and gives you the platform to promote larger products, services, and even your new venture.
