The more traffic your website receives the better chance you have of making money. You have two options for increasing traffic to your website:
- Purchase traffic
- Improve your organic rankings
While purchasing traffic is great in theory, it can cost a lot of money. For this reason, a lot of affiliate marketers spend their time and resources on improving organic rankings through proper search engine optimization (SEO).
One of the most important aspects of SEO is link building. In general, the more links you have pointing to your website the better chance you have of ranking at the top of the first page. While there is more to it than this, this is the frame of mind that you need to be in at all times.
With many different ways to build links, you need to be careful about the approach that you take. You only have so much time. On top of this, if you go overboard, such as building too many links in a short period of time, your site could be penalized.
Creating link exchanges with other webmasters is a great way to not only get a link to your site, but to help somebody else along the way. As you begin to create your plan, follow these three tips:
1. Target websites that can give you the most “powerful” links. You can do this by focusing solely (or at least to start) on high pagerank websites in your industry.
2. Be thorough when contacting other webmasters. You cannot expect somebody to exchange links with you if they don’t have all the information. Include the following information in your initial email: a brief introduction, website URL, and anchor text preference. Make it simple for the other party to understand your proposal.
3. Setup a page on your site for publishing links. Once somebody posts your link you need to return the favor. After all, it is called a link exchange for a reason. Many webmasters create a page (Resources, Suggested Reading, etc.) that includes nothing more than links to other useful sites. By doing this, you don’t have to clutter your primary content with outbound links.
